Why Do You Need A Chimney Liner?
Although a chimney would never be built without a chimney liner today, chimney liners haven’t always been a given. Many older chimneys were built without liners. Chimney fires used to be a lot more common as well, and it’s no coincidence. That’s why today, we work hard to ensure that all chimneys are properly lined by high-quality, damage-free liners. Terra cotta and stainless steel liners are considered to be the best, the safest, and the most effective liners, but even these can become damaged with neglect and time.
When Should I Have My Liner Replaced Or Repaired?
Since you can’t really see the interior of your chimney liner, it can be hard to know when it’s time to consider repairs or relining – but we can help. We perform camera inspections of chimney systems and can get a complete look at your chimney flue liner from top to bottom. Both the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) state that a repair or reline is absolutely necessary when damage is found, for both the safety and efficiency of the system. Should we find any of the following, we will recommend a repair or reline:
- Spalling/flaking and deterioration
- Gaps in the mortar
- Other damage
